Overview

Salary $50,000 year

The Project Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial, accounting and contract support services of various publicly funded workforce development contracts. This position is also responsible for the operations of post-award contract administration and related accounting duties. Working closely with the Finance Manager, Controller and the Director(s) of Program Operations, the Project Accountant will focus heavily on budgeting, compliance, reporting and variance analysis functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform contract-related post-award functions, including budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, labor distribution changes, reconciliations, re-budgeting and contract closeout functions required by contract administrative entity.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports to Finance Manager as required.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports on contracts for internal management purposes.
  • Review invoices and provide account codes, when appropriate, for proper project accounting.
  • Produce budget and expense analysis report.
  • Prepare and distribute periodic invoices for project reimbursement.
  • Work with Center Director(s), Finance Manager and appropriate city office staff in the development of forecasts, budgets and budget revisions for programs.
  • Communicate monthly financial results with appropriate program staff, informing them of financial position of the project.
  • Coordinate with the Finance Manager to process journal entries to various projects if needed.
  • Ensure compliance of contract with SBS/HRA policies and procedures and funding rules/regulations, including WIOA/TANF.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis in response to requests or to provide support to various programs.
  • Visit program offices to support financial management of projects, conduct periodic compliance review of projects, to include financial management overviews with office staff and partner staff.
  • Support required audits

Qualifications

  • BS/BA Degree in Finance, Accounting, or closely related field. 3-5 years of relevant work experience + associate degree can be substituted for BA/BS requirement.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in the public sector, with experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting is preferable.
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers.
