Scope of Position: The Youth Academic Advisor will oversee an In-School Youth Certified Nursing Assistant Program that will be hosted at Bloomfield High School during the 2024-2025 academic year. This person will provide case management and academic support to the participants by developing a plan that will increase job readiness skills and help them overcome issues related to their credential training. The Youth Academic Advisor will also be responsible for providing regular program updates and offering innovative and engaging educational experiences for the participants while they are enrolled in the program.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct support to all students enrolled in the Bloomfield Dual Track program.
  • Hold regular office hours at Bloomfield High School to provide in-person support to all students.
  • Offer job readiness and academic success training to help students prepare for their credential training.
  • Identify additional ways to support students and develop tools for support
  • Ensure students attend all required classes to complete credential training.
  • Provide individualized and holistic support to each student tailored to their specific needs
  • Work with community employers to ensure that students have supportive service needs met.
  • Develop relationships with employers who can provide career pathways in healthcare.
  • Identify potential mentors for the youth population to aid in their success
  • Provide referrals to community partners when appropriate
  • Enter and update participant information into all appropriate databases and files
  • Conduct case management duties and maintain compliance with funder and contract guidelines
  • Complete necessary data entry requirements per contract requirements
  • Maintain student files in accordance with state and local regulations through CTHires and ETO
  • All other duties assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A combination of education and experience that shows a strong background in youth programing and academic advising.
  • A teaching certificate or certification within the State of Connecticut is required.
  • Must have experience working with at-risk youth population
  • Must be able to work independently and be comfortable with a variety of competing priorities
  • Must have excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Should have skills and experience in providing career development assistance
  • Should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must have notable experience in a team-oriented environment
  • Valid Driver’s License and an automobile are required
