Overview

Title:   Instructional Designer

Classification: Non-Exempt

Salary $65,000 year

 

Scope of Position

To design and develop engaging and interactive curriculum that embraces adult learning concepts and meets customer needs

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Participate in all aspects of curriculum development by creating engaging curriculum content, e-learning activities, training materials, training modules and teaching aides
  • Assess training needs through in-depth skill gap analyses, surveys; interviews with employees; focus groups; or consultation with managers, instructors, or customer representatives
  • Evaluate, update and/or customize existing training and curriculum to meet current training needs and industry trends
  • Conduct research on specific topics to gather information needed for the curriculum design
  • Design and develop specific in-person, blended and virtual curriculum to meet customers’ needs and optimize training effectiveness.
  • For each training, complete an instructional matrix, which includes identifying sub-modules, setting learning objectives, aligning assessments to objectives, selecting instructional strategies, identifying/creating aligned materials, and estimating timing
  • Build curriculum incorporating a variety of instructional techniques or formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, or lectures
  • Develop materials needed for the curriculum including but not limited to: PowerPoints/slide show presentations with detailed facilitator notes, Articulate (or alternate authoring software), handouts, student guides, instructor guides, quizzes, tests, etc.
  • Develop engaging interactive e-learning experiences using a variety of authoring tools within a technology-based environment or KeyWe/Canvas learning management system
  • Adapt to and learn client-based LMS systems
  • Ensure all work is ADA compliant
  • Facilitate pilots to identify curriculum changes and make adjustments as necessary
  • Facilitate train-the-trainers to ensure trainers understand how to deliver the curriculum effectively and accurately
  • Create and conduct tutorials for technology training
  • Design training evaluation forms
  • Assist in the development of grants, proposals, and company procedures, as requested
  • Meet and maintain a productive working relationship with clients and assist with marketing of EDSI’s services
  • Manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment with exceptional organizational, time management and customer service skills
  • Continue to pursue educational opportunities in education, instructional design, and technology
  • Assist in the research of new and innovative learning technologies
  • Provide other instructional design support as needed including providing support with online credentialing, handling administrative tasks, and facilitating training events

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in teaching/training adult learners
  • Preferred one to three years of experience designing curriculum
  • Hands-on experience with Learning Management Software (LMS)
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, training, human services, or related area is required
  • Knowledge of multi-modality, strength-based educational approaches, group and individual instructional strategies, and training design
  • Experience with e-learning and/or video editing software a plus but not required
  • Must have excellent technology skills with ability to rapidly learn new technology
