As Career Advisor, you will provide support and assistance to program participants in all areas related to gaining and/or retaining employment and career advancement.

The Washington Heights Workforce1 Career Center offers a set of services customized to meet the needs of foreign and native-born New Yorkers ages 18 and up. We work with customers who are authorized to work in the United States. Our Center is unique in the way we help clients pursue training opportunities, connect to employment, and develop valuable skills to improve job candidacy while navigating public benefits.

Responsibilities

Successful Elements:

  • Meet with jobseekers to provide individualized assessment of work readiness, help identify employment and educational goals, provide referrals to appropriate community service or social service agencies when needed
  • Determine WIOA eligibility and accurately complete required documentation for enrollment into the Worksource1 data management system
  • Maintain knowledge of employment opportunities and training programs available to make accurate assessments and next steps as it relates to the Foreign-Born population
  • Understand and be trained in career development services, and facilitate career development activities as needed: hosting and coordinating virtual events, workshops, assessment, and orientation for Foreign-Born New Yorkers, including creating solutions to attendance problems
  • Facilitate information sessions and assessments to determine if Individual Training Grants and specialized workshops are the right fit for jobseekers
  • Track jobseekers’ progress toward goals and modify the IEP as necessary, including providing consistent and comprehensive case management and follow-up
  • Maintain organized database of participants and keep detailed documentation of all contacts, including sharing updates with appropriate staff and/or funding agency
  • Coordinate participant retention services and accommodate participant work schedules to ensure participants follow through with planned activities as outlined in contract with funding agency
  • Provide front desk support, operational assistance, data entry assistance, customer service assistance, troubleshooting, workshop support and any other activities needed to support the operations of the Center
  • Help to ensure that positive outcomes and goals are met as required by contract
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports as needed (participation, placement)

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish, English/French, or English/Haitian Creole Required
  • Experience with prioritizing tasks and recording case notes
  • Demonstrated telephone, computer, and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract require
  • Customer service experience required
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office

 

Required Education:

  • College Degree or equivalent experience preferred
