Overview

Title: Youth Career Advisor

Classification: Non-Exempt

Salary: $46,000-48,000 year

 

Scope of Position

To provide comprehensive guidance and counseling support to Youth. The Youth Career Advisor will guide individuals through their educational and career planning, towards the overall goal of post-secondary education enrollment or sustainable full-time employment.  This position will also be responsible for providing career readiness and/or post-secondary activities that will be focused on keeping the youth actively engaged in the program until all the Youth’s goals have been met. The Youth Career Advisor will collaborate with the Business Service Team to ensure sustainable placement for each youth.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Provide individualized basic skills assessments and identify employment goals based on career interest, ability, and personal development considerations
  • Build one-on-one working relationships with youth to assist in mitigating challenges to obtaining and retaining employment.
  • Maintain a caseload of 35-50 youth
  • Enroll youth participants in the program via the CWDS application
  • Meet regularly with all active Youth participants providing career exploration, guidance and counseling
  • Provide individualized and holistic support to each participant tailored to their specific needs
  • Actively recruit WIOA youth eligible candidates to enroll in the youth program.
  • Provide offsite enrollment opportunities and support with educational facilities and/or employers as assigned.
  • Provide referrals to community partners when appropriate
  • Develop Individual Service Strategy based on youths’ strengths and goals
  • Contact employers/post-secondary education opportunities
  •  Establish detailed documentation of all client records to maintain organized database and generate all project reports as needed
  • Conduct regular assessments tailored to guiding the participant in their career goals
  • Work closely with leadership and the Performance Analyst to be sure all activities are updated, and participant information is entered into all appropriate databases and files
  • Conduct Case Management duties, determine program eligibility and maintain compliance with funder and Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act guidelines
  • Engage youth in the Youth Fourteen Elements (career counseling, goal setting, entrepreneurship, financial navigation, training, paid work experience, literacy development, GED, mentorship, tutoring, etc)

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years of human services, training or teaching experience
  • Experience working with disconnected youth
  • Skills and experience in providing career development and/or advising
  • Valid state driver’s license and vehicle required, decent drivers record
  • Experience in a team-oriented environment
  • Degree in business, education, human services or related area is preferred
  • Ability to converse with a wide range of professionals and demonstrate a positive professional attitude
