Overview

Scope of Position:

 

The Houston Gulf Coast Employment Counselor connects youth jobseekers with meaningful employment opportunities. This position is centered on job matching and placement—supporting individuals in identifying career goals, aligning their skills with labor market demand, and guiding them through the application and hiring process. The Youth Employment Counselor provides universal job search services to the public, including resume development, targeted job referrals, and assistance with navigating online applications.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

· Provide one-on-one support for resume development, interview preparation, and online job applications

· Identify and refer youth customers to job opportunities that match their skills, experience, and goals using the WorkInTexas system and other tools

· Guide youth customers through the application, interview, and placement process; follow up with customers and employers to assess referral outcomes

· Conduct skills assessments and deliver relevant labor market information to inform job search strategies

· Facilitate job search workshops, hiring events, and group activities to connect jobseekers with employers

· Support individuals not enrolled in intensive services

· Accurately document all services, referrals, and outcomes in WorkInTexas in a timely manner

· Other opportunities as available

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

· Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience

· Two years of work experience, combining elements of training, counseling, case management, or other services

· Ability to work in a variety of settings with a culturally diverse customer base, with the ability to be culturally sensitive

· Ability to serve as a role model to customers and motivate them toward achieving goals

· Experience in recruiting or marketing services is preferred

· Case management experience and the ability to read and interpret policies and procedures

· Experience in workforce development

· Must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite and other required locations
